Trick-Or-Canning!

This Sunday is Trick-Or-Canning!  This will be my first year going and I'm getting really excited cause I have heard some amazing stories. Katie wrote about why Trick-Or-Canning is so important and the impact you can make this weekend.

I think trick-or-canning is one of the most important events Intervarsity does each year. Let me tell you why.  I don’t know how many of you have ever spent time in a food bank but last year, as a part of InterVarsity’s spring break trip we stayed at and volunteered at a food bank.   What we saw was hundreds of pounds of fresh food like vegetables, fruits, bread, meat, and dairy coming in daily from the many supermarkets in the area that could no longer sell the items.  However, items with a longer shelf life were constantly in short supply.  Thus it falls to food drives to restock the shelves of various food banks across Denver.
This year all the food InterVarsity collects will first be built into a ‘Castle of Cans’ on November 18th.  Next it will be put into baskets and distributed to needy members of the Mines community.  The remaining food (and there will be a lot of it!) will then be donated to the Christian Action Guild.   The food we work to collect will benefit hundreds for quite a while.
The most important reason why I think Trick-Or-Canning is amazing is that every year we see God work miracles.   Every single year we have people come back with stories of people who have opened their hearts and their pantries to help those in need simply because we’ve asked. Last year one group came back and unloaded over $300 worth of cans.  When they asked a random guy to donate he told them to follow him to King Soopers where he bought all those cans just for them to take. That is the Kingdom breaking through in Golden in a powerful way.
So this Sunday you can have an average Halloween or you can give God the chance to work in a powerful way.  The worst that happens is you come and spend some time getting free candy and hanging out with your friends, but the best thing that could happen is you witness the power of God to grab on to people’s hearts.

Details:
Meet at the CTLM parking lot Sunday anytime from 1-5.  We’ll be leaving once an hour and going for an hour at a time.  You don’t need a car, we’ve got a lot of drivers!  Come wearing your costume (or not if you prefer) and if you have a reusable grocery bag or a pillow case or something to carry cans with bring that (we’ll have some there if you don’t have anything).

We will also be having an after party Sunday night starting at 7 pm at the Unicorn House where we can spend time together, watch some great movies and play some games.  All are welcome with or without costumes!
