Application: Risks

Large Group was mixed up a little bit this week.  The older kids were able to learn about finances and practical Christian applications with their money.  The cool kids had the opportunity to manuscript study Matthew 25 : 14 - 30, the parable of the talents.   That's what I will be talking about.  If you weren't able to study this passage on Tuesday night, you should read through it and then join in on the conversation.

I could sit here and write out a detailed analysis of this parable and try to answer all the tough questions.  But to be honest with you, I don't think thats what we need.  There are endless ways to interpret this passage, but hear me out on mine.  You see, I think this passage is calling us to action and risk.

The master, in entrusting his wealth to his servants, expected them to take what they were given, and to use it.  To expand the value and create more. What if God has entrusted His kingdom to us?  He has given us this gift freely, but with the expectation that we will increase the value.  The kingdom of heaven is precious, something that we should treasure.  But if we just sit on that knowledge and don't share it with others, then we are "wicked and lazy."  I don't know what this does to you, but it is hard for me to hear.  The servant was trying to protect this precious thing and got condemned for that?

To be "good and faithful" we have to work hard and take risks.  Not only should we desire to share this good with others, we are called to it. God has given us so much.  How can we be content returning the bare minimum?  He deserves more.  You deserve to share in His happiness!

Let's become a group of "good and faithful" servants with our wreckless love. What hasn't this campus seen? What don't they expect?

What will you risk?
